In a similar vein as the publications I produced while working at Artangel, it is high time I consider the specific nature and processes at work in the series ‘Fabrications’, which I commissioned and produced for independent art book publisher Book Works. London. After having focused on project work for several years in Scotland (including Zenomap, Scotland’s first independent presentation at the Venice Biennale in 2003), it was wonderful to be able to focus on working with artists on publications again.
Fabrications comprised a series of co-publishing partnerships, which provided interesting interactions and considerations in themselves. Loosely framed around the notion of ‘The Fabrication of Truth’, the following titles were part of the series: Make Everything New – A Project on Communism, a collaboration with Grant Watson and Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2006); The so-called utopia of the centre beaubourg, by Luca Frei (2007), with Casco, Centre for Art, Theory and Design, Utrecht; Tarihte Bugün / Today in History, with Ahmet Ögüt, in collaboration with Platform Garanti, Istanbul (2007); Feature: Reconstruction with Shezad Dawood, in collaboration with Wysing Arts Centre, Bourn, and Castlefield Gallery, Manchester (2008); Has Man a Function in Universe? with Gavin Wade and in collaboration with Eastside Projects, Birmingham (2008); Gest: Laboratory of Synthesis, with Robert Garnett and Andrew Hunt, in collaboration with Kingston University London (2008); Heather & Ivan Morison, Falling into Place, with Situations / University of West England in Bristol (2009).
Again, a screen grab from a talk as a teaser, but individual entries to follow in the coming months.
