It’s been a good 1.5 years since I finished my text for Thinking Back, Making Forward, titled ‘Closing the Gap: Writing a Curatorial PhD to Practise Differently’, but the book is finally here. I am inclined to attribute the belated release to the care the editors and publishers have taken in ensuring all contributors (over 30) dotted their s and crossed their ts, and to ensure that the design – which I really like – is ‘just so’ without impinging on legibility of texts and images. That said, I am sure that I’d write a completely different text now, but that’s how things should be, with reflections on what we practice and how remaining forever in flux. In a video kindly made available by Valiz, my opening spread briefly passes the camera lens, but as my subscription to this platform doesn’t allow me to post moving image files, a couple of stills instead.
