Thinker and writer Mick Wilson invited me to work for PARSE Journal over a decade ago, after having been introduced to him by Paul O’Neill and with whom he has an ongoing meandering collaboration. I was pleasantly surprised to see myself quoted by Mick in his latest publication, On Discourse and the Curatorial, published by Floating Opera Press. The chosen statements are derived from a text I wrote for Not Going It Alone, a book on which I worked with Paul, and that builds on my PhD research.
The citatition are interesting because they are about what articulation and dissemination do to our understanding of a practice in its field, and beyond. What is funny here – especially given the tension between collaborations and the conventions of who is credited and how that I ponder on in my essay – is that in one note I am attributed a specific role in a project but actually had another one, while in several cases my surname is misspelled. Some copy-editing and proofing details were clearly missed here, which are of course not necessarily Mick’s! Minor gripes among major gains….
