Another Dublin convo with Paul O’Neill

Following our conversation at IMMA in February, Paul and I met once more in Dublin in December 2025 during the Dublin Art Book Fair. This time we used the latest publication we’d worked on together to explore our ongoing conversation and collaboration. Building on various essays and their different iterations, and following me helping him shape a talk Paul did in Copenhagen in 2024, I worked with him towards the crystallisation of an extended essay titled Beyond Caring: Para-Hosting as Curatorial Escape, published by Floating Opera Press in a series edited by Carolina Rito.

For the launch of this latest title, and building on our collaborations on Not Going It Alone and Curious and several conversations for their respective launches, this time we went for a more scripted approach in which we alternately read fragments from each of the books that demonstrated the intricate nature of the generative batting texts back and forth between us. Riffing on the focus on para-hosting, an approach to working with others and other organisations that Paul has practised most explicitly and expansively in PUBLICS in Helsinki, the book ends with a short para-logue /log by me, titled ‘Hosting Me, Hosting You’.
